Role Playing

GUIDELINES FOR ROLE PLAYERS IN WINTERFELL:

BE UPFRONT. Be sure to have a note on the first page of your profile so people can quickly learn that you will be “in character” and what your character is about and what a person can expect from you and your character. Know your limits and make them known to your potential role play community.

DO NOT ASSUME. Not everyone you interact with will know or understand that you are role playing. Take the time to send a quick private message to your new acquaintance to let them know that you are role playing and what your intentions are. Trust me, this will not kill the mood, and you will save yourself a head ache and unwanted drama.

BE RESPECTFUL. If your new acquaintance is not interested in role playing with you, simply be courteous and step away from the situation. Consider thanking them for their time and just leave it at that. Don’t take it personally, because it isn’t personal, it just is.

RESPECT GENRE. There is every kind of role play in Second Life that you can possibly think up, not all genre’s of role play are compatible with each other. There will be times when a Vampire might run into a Jedi or a Steampunk runs into a Gorean slave. These interactions have the potential to be great fun, but they also have the potential to be explosively ruinous. These genre conflicts are not directed at you or your role play, they are not here to cause you strife or be combative. If you don’t like something, just move on.

You may have problems with slavery, you may hate Steampunk, you may think magic encourages Satanism...that doesn't give you the right to lecture or attack anyone due to their lifestyle or roleplay choices. Because someone plays a Gorean Kajira doesn't mean they want to debate the pros and cons of role playing slavery, and what a horrible RL institution it is. They really don't.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. Because you take part in role playing, this does not mean you are to be subject to abuse, discrimination or stalking. If someone is out of line or abusive let me or one of the role play managers know about it immediately and we will give the issue top priority. In extreme cases (repeated and aggressive abuse), file an abuse report with Linden Lab AND contact me.

GUIDELINES FOR NON ROLE PLAYERS IN WINTERFELL

BE UPFRONT. If you are presented with a situation that you are not interested in for any reason at all; be clear, be respectful, and say “no thank you”.

KNOW YOUR OPTIONS. Role playing and story telling is encouraged in Winterfell, but it is not mandatory. Being part of a story has always been and will always be optional. You do not have to allow role playing on your land, regardless if it is residential or commercial. If you run a public venue please take a little time to make the rules of your land known. If someone appears to not know the rules, give them the benefit of the doubt and let them know before assuming they mean you harm or disrespect.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. If someone is out of line or abusive let me or one of the role play managers know about it immediately and we will give the issue top priority. In extreme cases (repeated and aggressive abuse), file an abuse report with Linden Lab AND contact me.

As always, if you have concerns or questions, please contact me
